What to send

These messages help the guide most:

  • Error reports: the page address, the statement in question and, where possible, a source.
  • Updates to a scientific name or to a group's place on a tree: the checklist entry or the study that supports the change.
  • Leads to older documents and public-domain plates: the title, the edition and the page number.
  • Leads to openly licensed photographs: a link to the file and its licence.

A report that the sources confirm leads to a correction, listed on the page concerned and in the Revisions and Corrections log. The standards a report is measured against are on the Sources and Standards page.

What the guide does not handle

Some requests fall outside what Botany for the Curious covers, and the guide does not take them on:

  • identifying a plant from a photograph;
  • whether a plant is safe to eat or touch, whether it is poisonous, what to do after contact with it, and any medicinal or health question;
  • growing advice, such as how to plant or when to prune;
  • recommendations or ratings of products, teas or coffees;
  • opening times, tickets and prices for gardens.

If someone may have been poisoned by a plant, or feels unwell after contact with one, contact a local poison control centre or a medical service.

Messages about privacy are welcome at the same address; the Your Privacy page explains how email is used.
